President Truman

A Piece of History: Our CENTURY 21 Photographer was only 15 years old in October of 1945 and remembers the day President Truman visited the home. He recalls, "I was on my paper route delivering the newspaper. All of a sudden, I heard lots of sirens up on Chickasawba Street. I rode my bike up one block to Chickasawba and there it was...The Presidential Motorcade. There was President Truman in a yellow open-air convertible looking just like his pictures. He waved at me as I clapped and cheered. The motorcade then turned south towards Main Street. I was so filled with pride that it still brings tears to my eyes 65 years later."
